IMPACTS OF ZOLPIDEM AND BENZODIAZEPINE ABUSE IN A PATIENT WITH BIPOLAR DISORDER: A CASE REPORT

This paper reports the clinical case of a 49-year-old patient admitted to the Maria Cândida Teixeira Psychiatric Hospital in Nerópolis (GO), due to a case of chemical dependency characterized by the abusive use of benzodiazepines and zolpidem, associated with bipolar II affective disorder. The study sought to demonstrate the impacts of this comorbidity and its appropriate management with a multidisciplinary therapeutic approach and analysis of the effectiveness of the management. Medical records and clinical observations were analyzed, focusing on the evolution of the condition during hospitalization. The results indicate that the multidisciplinary approach, with pharmacotherapy and psychotherapy, was effective in reducing symptoms and improving the patient's overall functioning. It is concluded that the combination of integrative therapeutic interventions is essential for the treatment of patients with chemical dependency and affective disorders, favoring clinical stabilization, social reintegration, and improved quality of life.
