This study aims to analyze the influence of the language used in problem statements on the interpretation and resolution of mathematical problems, based on a literature review in the field of Mathematics Education. It is a qualitative bibliographic research, grounded on the analysis of books, scientific articles, dissertations, and theses addressing the relationship between language, reading comprehension, and problem solving. The analysis was conducted through an interpretative approach, organizing information into thematic categories, which allowed the identification of convergences, divergences, and gaps in the scientific literature. The results show that language plays a decisive role in understanding problem statements, directly influencing students’ performance. Difficulties in problem solving are often associated with reading comprehension, linguistic complexity of the statements, and challenges in translating natural language into mathematical language. Furthermore, many errors arise from misinterpretations rather than a lack of mathematical knowledge. It is concluded that the language of problem statements is a central element in the process of learning Mathematics, making it essential to integrate reading and interpretation practices into teaching. Therefore, it is recommended to design clearer and more appropriate problem statements, as well as to develop pedagogical strategies that articulate language and Mathematics, promoting more meaningful learning.
