THE IMPORTANCE OF FUNCTIONAL TRAINING IN BASIC EDUCATION: APPLICATIONS IN ELEMENTARY AND SECONDARY EDUCATION

Functional training has become established as a contemporary pedagogical strategy in school Physical Education, promoting specific motor adaptations that are transferable to daily and sporting activities. This literature review article aims to analyze the importance of functional training for the physical and motor development of elementary and high school students. The PubMed, SciELO, and Google Scholar databases were consulted, selecting articles published between 2020 and 2025 that addressed the topic in school and sports contexts. The results demonstrate that functional training significantly improves motor coordination, agility, strength, balance, and body awareness, in addition to contributing to injury prevention and the inclusion of students in physical activities. It is concluded that functional training constitutes an efficient and accessible tool for promoting health and motor performance in Basic Education, with direct relevance to the training of Physical Education teachers.
